The Residences: An Edwardian Remodel Inspired by Hotel Living

Hotel inspired homes have been on an upward trend in recent years as more people long for interiors that remind them of their most memorable getaways. This was the same sentiment couple Mandy and Christian had when deciding to remodel their three storey Edwardian residence.

“We needed that day to day practicality along with a relaxing space to unwind from our busy lives,” shares Mandy. “Our brief was very much ‘hotel style’ so we could experience that luxury of feeling like we were away within our home.”
To make their vision a reality, the couple collaborated with UK-based designers Krantz Design, initially meeting for a kitchen project that quickly became a whole house renovation. The result is a functional home filled with luxurious, stylised interiors, sophisticated decor, and opulent hardware.

The Foyer

Just as a hotel lobby gives guests a warm welcome, Mandy and Christian — who love entertaining at home — mirrored the experience with a home bar and powder room near the entryway so they can take coats and offer drinks as soon as their visitors arrive.

Krantz Creative Director, Maria Constantinou shares, “It was really important to me that the entrance design captured what was to come with the rest of the journey through the home. The entrance lobby, through to the hallway bar cabinet and powder room, formed the perfect setting to greet guests and gave a wonderful insight for what’s to come for the rest of the interior.”

The home bar and powder room use deep, moody hues to create a lavish feel. Deep charcoals and brass hardware elevate the space. Armac Martin’s MIX collection completes the custom bar cabinet, and the Claremont and Gaumont collections in satin antique satin lacquered finish accent the powder room.

The Kitchen

Meticulous planning went into this beautiful two tone kitchen. It is filled with bespoke details, from the hidden chopping block to cabinets carefully measured and created to house the exact sizes of utensils. Subtle hardware accents from Armac Martin’s Lincoln collection in a polished nickel plate finish keep the look classic and timeless.

“Symmetry was everything with this design and it really is a chef’s kitchen. The pantry storage and refrigeration at the rear were the datum point to the whole design, which run symmetrically to the orangery extension,” says Maria.

Veering from the usual modern kitchen with stools along the bar edge, Krantz opted for a round seating space complemented by a chic walnut table. This innovative piece is also connected to the cooking area and flanked by clever storage on the sides.

The Master Suite

In the master suite, the luxe hotel details continue, starting with a statement headboard that separates the bedroom from the ‘his and hers’ dressing area behind it. Each side of the bed provides access to the dressing room and continues on to the main bathroom.

According to Maria, the bedroom is her favourite design from the project and even in the span of her career. “We worked hard to make sure it evoked a feeling, and as you walk in, it makes you feel so calm and relaxed,” she shares.

The room’s open plan layout was challenging – their team was briefed on the dressing room situation within the master suite. Their solution? A central headboard to create zones in the room and dressing areas positioned back to back with screwed cabinets to save space. Both sides of the bed provide access to the “masculine” and “feminine” sides, creating further definition and depth.

Elegant details, from the lighting to the hardware, give off a sophisticated vibe without losing the room’s warmth. The floating side tables feature the Edgbaston Pull Handle from Armac Martin in a satin antique satin lacquered finish.

Mandy’s dressing room area continues the bright and airy feel of the master suite with a predominantly white palette and chic hardware for a subtle, opulent aesthetic. Cabinet pulls from Armac Martin’s Leebank collection are in a satin antique satin lacquered finish, providing a sharp but exquisite contrast to the theme.

If you want to evoke luxe hotel living into your home, Maria advises to layer elegant design with beautiful materials and opt for minimal styling. Providing contrast with a light palette and deep cabinetry or vice versa makes your decor and accents stand out, adding to the luxury home feel and creating the right ambience for your interiors.
